One of the first projects I ever worked on was a DIY jewelry organizer made from a re-purposed coffee cup holder. I found this one at my local thrift store. I used some black paint, left over from book shelf refurb I had done that week, and vio la!
Always give any piece you are working on a good sanding before painting. This will help the paint to stick to the surface. I also use a furniture finishing wax to get rid of that post painting stickiness.
For just a couple of bucks and in just a few hours you can have all your jewelry hung up neatly.
