Five Minute Friday: Wire Spring Wine Bottle Holder.

So life has finally slowed down enough for me to get one of my projects from Texas Antiques Week.

I know I know…its a five minute project…but finding the time to get in the garage and get this put together has been hard.

What makes this project so great is its use…it holds wine! Three entire bottles! There is nothing better than wine.

In October I traveled to central Texas for the Fall edition of Antiques Week. Two whole days there and we barely scratched the surface. The piles of junk and antiques went on and on. It was a wonderful treasure hunt. 

I stumbled upon a small box of some great antique bed springs and I knew right away I wanted to turn them into wine bottle storage. I grabbed six of them and brought them back to Colorado. This project took the same amount of time as it took The Hubs to set up the router (for another project we are working on…which unfortunately took more than five minutes).

Materials:

• A few old bed springs. The rustier the better.
• A one by three piece of wood. (I used an old fence board we had left after some repairs this summer).
• A staple gun. I used a T-25 staple gun with 7/16″ round-crown staples. (this just means that the staple is round on the top instead of straight)

• Clear Coat.

How To:

1. I recommend giving the springs and the boards you are using a good cleaning. Doing this before you put anything together will prevent any dirt and debris from making it into your home.
2. For the base I used was an old fence board that was six feet long, so I decided to cut it in half so that I could make two wine racks, each board could fit three spring. 
3. I alternated the direction the bottle would be facing, to keep the rack from being unbalanced.
4. Once you know which direction the springs will face simply staple them in place with two to three staples.
5. After I had attached all the bed springs, I sprayed each wine rack with a clear enamel. I like that it darkened the wood a little and it will keep any left over dirt and rust from rubbing off on the wine bottles.

I haven’t hung these in our bar area yet because I am thinking about giving them away as Christmas Gifts. But when the time comes you can use Sawtooth picture hangers, or screw the racks directly into the wall for more support.
