Five Minute Friday: Trash Can Makeover.
This week for Five Minute Friday I do a quick makeover on my Office Trash Can. Trust me it needed it.
I inherited this trash can on one of my moves in college, when I moved out it was left over so I kept it (you never know when a trash can is going to come in handy). The style of the trash can was questionable (I’m not big into frogs) but it didn’t really bother me till about a week ago. As I mulled over a way to give this small piece of plastic a little more pizzazz I looked up at and saw some of the wine wrapped wine bottles I made for my wedding centerpieces and a light bulb went off….Wrap it in rope!
What you need for this makeover is simple.
- A crappy trash can.
- Spray paint and primer in a neutral color. If you are already using a trash can in a neutral color you can skip this.
- Rope, whatever gauge and color you prefer. They had some fun colors at the hardware store. I used about 50 feet for this small trash can.
- Construction adhesive
- Chalk gun.
How its done.
- Clean your trash can. I like to clean out my trash cans every couple of months. This step will help clean the outside so the paint and adhesive will stick.
- Spray paint the outside of the trash can. Allow one hour for dry time.
- Follow the instruction on the construction adhesive for opening and loading it into the chalk gun.
- Use the adhesive to attach the rope to the outside of the trash can. I started at the bottom and worked my way up, it can take a little trial and error to figure out the most efficient way to achieve this. If you have the option of having some extra hands, like say a husband or maybe a small child that is still on summer break, I would advice soliciting their help.
Viola, you are finished. Sit back and enjoy throwing things away in this rustic fun trash can. I think I am gonna do all my trash cans like this.

Thanks Lindsey, wrapping things in rope is kinda contagious, do so at your own risk, once you do one piece you’ll start wrapping everything in rope. ;). PS we should plan another Denver Bloggers Meet up. Maybe something fun for the fall like coffee and a pumpkin patch?

Thanks so much for stopping by, I’m glad you liked it. Be careful with that construction adhesive though, it can get everywhere. You could use hot glue if Construction Adhesive seems a little daunting. Every Friday I do an easy fun project so come on back and check them out.

I agree, long drawn out projects can be a pain, so having a nice quick one can be really nice every now and then. Hope you like some of my other Five Minute Friday Projects there are lots more to come.
